Imaginative Google Maps Vs Tedious Apple Maps

Finally, Google Map for iOS has launched, after a long wait of journey. You can grab from Apps store of Google and others right now and it is alarming that end of struggling Apple Maps. Google Maps come with lots of advancement like turn-by-turn navigation, Fly over feature (3D isometric like), Street view and completely reworked on its look and feel. Now it is more users friendly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook’s official explanation was that the company wanted to add things like turn-by-turn navigation, voice integration and flyover, but while those are worthy, reasons it seems like Apple just did not have good enough data for the back end. Google in contrast has spent tons of money and has a huge team working on Maps for years, and it is hard to expect Apple to work out miracles in the short time they have had.

Comparison based on Design and Interface:

                     Start with the design of brand new Google Maps for iOS. The applications are completely    remade with a clean, gesture-based, intuitive interface. Google Maps use no useless buttons, almost all of the screen estate.
There are many more options are available like you can switch to map view to satellite view.  A swipe from right to the left in the bottom part of the screen, or just a two-finger swipe to the left brings up four toggles.

When you select a particular place, a swipe up from the bottom brings up the address along with contacts and user reviews, all very elegant, very intuitive and simple.

Compare this with Apple Maps, and its interface with no gesture support seems outdated, however still functional.

The maps themselves are vector-based in both Google’s and Apple’s case, and load very quickly. Google however seems to have managed to optimize its app so it seems like the new Maps load even quicker than Apple Maps.

Overall, interface is a clear win for Google Maps, which shows us how Google is now more often leading the way in terms of mobile software design while Apple has to catch up.

  Comparison based on Search and View:

                      Searching capability is more important for any search map engine. Google fares noticeably better than Apple Maps.
Two most important things are. Firstly, you just have to be much more specific - Apple’s search algorithms work differently. We managed to find it only after changing the search query to ‘Olympic Plaza’, Calgary and secondly, you have to much more context dependent to your search.

We tried looking up a popular restaurant chain in Europe and Google was spot on bringing us all of the restaurants in a particular city, But Apple could not do that.

The more we searched for things, the more it became apparent what a huge gap there is between Google and Apple when it comes to actual places.

You can see in above picture difference between the views of places in Apple Maps and in Google Maps, which is providing better result? I think you all have answer. All of this is a huge frustrating for users, and that is why searching is definitely an area we see Google as a clear winner.

Comparison based on Navigation and Direction:

                     New Google Maps has built turn-by-turn navigation in its apps, which is more different from Apple Maps. Voice driving navigation works flawlessly on both apps, you get directions even if you lock your phone or exit the app in both Apple and Google Maps.
If we talk about direction, there are little bit difference between Google and Apple Maps. Both Search giant have done decent job. However, the back end of maps that are more accurate and tons of more points of interest on Google definitely puts it in a much more favorable position.
I would like to add one more interesting point is that, when you tap on the public transit option in Apple Maps it suggests you to open Google Maps for that.

  Conclusion:
                 
                     Finally yet importantly, with a brilliant gesture-based interface, no distracting ads, full on public transit information that Apple Maps lacks, and voice turn-by-turn guidance, Google Maps is the best maps application we have seen up to date, easily.

Compared to Apple Maps, it is a no brainner - Google Maps is better in virtually every aspect, especially looking from a global perspective. If you live in the United States, though, the disparity between the two narrows. It is still there, but with Yelp reviews integration, better-documented locations, Flyover for many cities, the U.S. is of the one place where users of Apple Maps are large in number.
Google Maps for iPhone are more like than Google’s own Android Maps Application.

It is not perfect though. It does not have full offline maps support, an area that Nokia still claims its own on Windows Phone. Google Maps is not ready to work with the i Pad. We really hope Google changes the latter soon.

Samsung has revealed the dates for its annual Forum and promised for "major announcements", sparking speculation that it could launch the Samsung Galaxy S4 phone in February in Monaco.  Samsung Forum event is taking place in Monaco from 4-6 February, where the sources expected for some “major announcement”.  The Samsung executive does not disclose the specification, but the Samsung executive confirms the name. An HD display and a 13MP camera are widely expected, as are wireless charging and mobile payment options. There have been a number of rumors that Samsung is going to bring a flexible screen to the Galaxy S4 - but given the Korean brand is already pushing the delivery of such tech back into 2013 for its customers.

Although, the announcement of S4 remains a possibility. Samsung wants to announce its smart phones before Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February 2013.
